Asymmetry of high velocity fluid delivery nozzles may be an approach to solving some of the critical aerodynamic problems encountered in hypersonic flows.

In the particular case of a hypersonic wind tunnel, a three-dimensional expansion would be very useful in order to avoid the slit which usually appears at the neck of a nozzle if it were two-dimensional. In addition, and at the hypersonic Machs, computations involving low Reynolds number flow rates are not perfect and the axisymmetric contours tend to generate disturbances that seem to focus at a point on the midline, thus altering the properties of the flows. This is problematic for aerodynamic models mounted on the axle for testing. This concentration is assumed to be caused by the constant radius of the cross section. This symmetry tends to focus any disturbance on a single point. A simple way to avoid this is to vary the radius in the cross section, moving the foci to points P2 and P3 instead of P1.

L’asymétrie des tuyères fournissant des fluides à grandes vitesses peut constituer une approche de résolution de certains problèmes aérodynamiques critiques rencontrés dans les écoulements hypersoniques.

Dans le cas particulier d'une soufflerie hypersonique, une détente tridimensionnelle serait très utile afin d’éviter l’entaille (slit) qui apparaît habituellement au col d'une tuyère si elle était bidimensionnelle. En outre et aux Mach hypersoniques, les calculs impliquant des débits à faible nombre de Reynolds ne sont pas parfaits et les contours axisymétriques tendent à générer des perturbations qui semblent se focaliser en un point situé sur la ligne médiane, modifiant ainsi les propriétés des écoulements. Cela pose problème aux modèles aérodynamiques montés sur l’axe afin d’être testés. Cette concentration est assumée être causée par le rayon constant de la section transversale. Cette symétrie a tendance à concentrer toute perturbation sur un seul point. Un moyen simple de l'éviter est de faire varier le rayon dans la section transversale, en déplaçant les foyers vers les points P2 et P3 au lieu de P1.
